Clinical Observation on Urinary Tract Infection in Urolithiasis


Abstract
It is well known that urinary tract infection and urinary lithiasis frequently coexist. The authors observed on urinary tract infection in 202 urolithiasis patients who admitted to the Department of Urology, Kyung Hee University Hospital from July, 1979 to December, 1980 and the following results were obtained.
1. In the 202 patients, pyuria was seen in 38. 1% and positive urine culture was 29.7%.
2. Pyuria was in 59.3% of renal stone, 27.5¡Æ0 of ureter stone and 50% of bladder stone.
3. Urine culture yields positive in 37.3% of renal stone, 23.6% of ureter stone and 58.3% of bladder stone.
4. The most frequent organisms were E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus in renal stone, Staphylococus epidermidis and, E. coli in ureter stone and Proteus mirabilis and Acinetobactor calcoaceticus in bladder stone.
5. Normal urinarysis finding observed in 125 patients, among this, 25 patients (20%) revealed positive urine culture.
